Sweden's left bloc edges ahead 176-173 as Andersson faces a fractious coalition

Sweden's centre-left bloc led by Social Democrat Magdalena Andersson took a narrow 176-173 lead (175 seats give a majority in the 349-seat Riksdag) over the governing centre-right in the 13 September election, inverting the 2022 result, while the Sweden Democrats lost vote share for the first time since entering parliament in 2010. Andersson's own party recorded one of its worst results in over a century despite finishing first, and forming a government will be difficult: the Left Party wants ministries in exchange for support, while the Centre Party has ruled out any government that includes the Left Party. The new Riksdag convenes on 28 September.
