Ankara urges Russia and Ukraine to safeguard Black Sea shipping after drone strike on Turkish-operated vessel

The Turkish-operated, Cameroon-flagged cargo ship Nadezhda was struck by drones off Russia's Novorossiysk port late on August 3 while en route to Samsun, seriously injuring three crew members; 13 of the 22 aboard are Turkish citizens. The Turkish Foreign Ministry said it was seriously concerned that civilian vessels are being targeted despite repeated warnings, and called on both Moscow and Kyiv to ensure navigational safety. The incident strains Ankara's balancing act between the warring parties and its role as a guarantor of Black Sea shipping.
