Türkiye's opposition splits: Yeni Parti takes 91 MPs, leaving the CHP with 44

Al Jazeera sets out what follows from Özgür Özel's founding of Yeni Parti in late July, after a court on 21 May annulled the congress that had elected him CHP chair and reinstated Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Ninety-one deputies went with him, leaving the CHP with 44 seats against the AKP's 277 in the 600-seat parliament. Özel says the party will back Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu as the opposition's presidential candidate, while analysts note that a divided opposition helps Erdoğan first of all.
