US envoy says Israel is 'too smart' to risk a real fight with Türkiye

Tom Barrack, the US ambassador to Türkiye, told a security forum in Doha that a direct military clash between Israel and Türkiye is unlikely despite tension over Syria. He said an Israeli strike on a Syrian airbase in August came within roughly 80 kilometres of the Turkish border without warning Ankara, and that back-channel contacts defused the crisis. He also said Washington would support Saudi Arabia against the Houthis logistically but avoid ground combat in Yemen.
