Turkish court acquits 44 of 45 defendants over last year's İmamoğlu protests

A Turkish court on Monday acquitted 44 of 45 young defendants tried over the mass protests that followed Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's detention in March 2025, Hürriyet Daily News reported. The remaining defendant received a deferred sentence of seven months and 15 days for a social media post the court deemed incitement to crime. İmamoğlu's own corruption trial, which opened in March 2026, continues separately with no verdict yet.
