Left and Centre parties still far apart as parliament prepares to reconvene

At the earliest, parliament can name a new prime minister the week starting 28 September, when speaker Andreas Norlén opens a round of talks with party leaders. The Left Party is demanding cabinet posts in any new government, while the Centre Party refuses to sit in one that includes the Left; the two have not yet sat down together. Left deputy leader Ida Gabrielsson says the party will not budge, and Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist says there is little point negotiating on that basis.
