Türkiye blasts EU Parliament committee's plan for a Cyprus 1974 monument
The European Parliament's women's rights committee approved an amendment to the EU's 2026 budget calling for funding for a monument to rape victims of Türkiye's 1974 invasion of Cyprus. Türkiye's foreign ministry called the plan an insult to its armed forces, said the 1974 operation prevented the "extermination" of Turkish Cypriots, and accused Brussels of becoming a tool of the Greek Cypriot side.
