The Constitutional Court upholds the rule moving a married woman's record to her husband's registry

The court rejected a challenge brought by an Istanbul court, which had argued the provision treats women and men differently after marriage with no legitimate justification. The majority held that the family registry is an administrative and technical record, and that transferring a woman's record does not have a direct and decisive effect on her legal status or concrete interests. Five members dissented, four of them writing that the rule positions women not as independent legal individuals but as records subordinate to their male spouses.
