Iran says its deal with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz is close to final

Foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Wednesday that Tehran and Muscat are in the final stage of drafting a joint statement on a new commercial shipping corridor through the strait, after both agreed coordinates. The talks have covered technical, legal, security and environmental aspects. Baghaei added that a deal with Oman does not in itself mean the waterway has become safe for passing vessels. One fifth of the world's oil and LNG supplies normally move through the strait, which Iran closed at the end of February.
