Zelenskyy at the White House as the Iran war and the Ukraine war converge

Volodymyr Zelenskyy was received by Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, some seventeen months after the Oval Office meeting that collapsed into a shouting match. The visit coincided with a Senate procedural vote on a bill, championed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham, that would put tariffs on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India, and sanction Vladimir Putin, Russian banks and major energy projects. The backdrop is that the two wars are starting to overlap: Ukraine struck an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea on Saturday, and Tehran has promised a response.
