Accusations mount this week in İmamoğlu corruption trial
Prosecutors at Silivri heard new testimony this week in the trial of former Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, one of 436 defendants accused of running a "criminal organization" from the municipality; he has been held in custody along with 46 other defendants. Witnesses described contractors paying bribes for permits and firms threatened with withheld municipal payments unless they funded election campaigns. Prosecutors are seeking sentences running to thousands of years; İmamoğlu denies the charges.
