CHP to back Mecca defense pact despite reservations

Opposition party CHP said on October 25 it will vote to ratify the Mecca defense pact between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, despite criticizing parts of it. Leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said the party has reservations but will still vote in favor, adding that his earlier concern the pact could provoke Iran had eased after Tehran later issued a supportive statement. The agreement, signed August 7, treats an attack on one signatory as an attack on all three and needs a simple parliamentary majority to be ratified.
