Sweden's centre-left parties agree emergency bill to halt some teen deportations

Parties across Sweden's centre-left reached agreement on 22 October for emergency legislation offering 13-month residence permits to young people who lived in Sweden with their families and were refused residency on or after 20 July 2021, while excluding those who evaded authorities or face criminal or security-related deportation. Migration Agency director-general Maria Mindhammar said no law currently requires her to pause deportations while the bill proceeds.
