Ankara prosecutors detain 25, including two deputy mayors, in new Etimesgut corruption sweep

Prosecutors detained 25 people on Tuesday, including two deputy mayors and five other municipal officials, in a new sweep on Ankara's Etimesgut Municipality over alleged tender-rigging, forged documents and improper zoning and permit benefits. It follows a July 30 operation that detained 55 people, including the municipality's CHP mayor, actor Erdal Beşikçioğlu, who has been in pretrial detention since 3 August. Hürriyet Daily News says investigations against opposition-run municipalities have intensified over the past year, with Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu among those still jailed pending trial.
