Speaker opens new round of talks after Andersson abandons bid to form government

Riksdag speaker Andreas Norlén is holding a new round of talks with all seven other party leaders on Wednesday, a day after Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson returned her mandate to try to form a government, saying she could not do it. Andersson had held the exploratory mandate since 17 September; because no formal prime-ministerial vote was held in parliament, it does not count against the speaker's four constitutionally allowed attempts. Moderate leader Ulf Kristersson is seen as the likely next choice, though the Sweden Democrats' demand for cabinet seats and the Centre Party's refusal to sit with them remain unresolved.
