Ankara prosecutors open bribery probe into opposition lawmaker

The Ankara Chief Prosecutor's Office opened a bribery investigation into New Party lawmaker Mustafa Erdem on 27 September, after digital messages found on a drug-case suspect's phone allegedly showed a $5 million deal tied to a forensic report for imprisoned Antalya mayor Muhittin Böcek. Erdem, who left the CHP when fellow member Özgür Özel founded the New Party, says he was only seeking legal advice on moving Böcek to house arrest for health reasons.
