Opposition lawmaker accuses ex-minister of share sale just before fund crisis broke

New Party lawmaker Zeynel Emre alleges that former minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and her husband bought shares in shipbuilder Özata Denizcilik for 63.4 million lira in April and sold them for 1.34 billion lira in September, just before regulators began winding down 131 investment funds holding roughly $18 billion from over 455,000 investors. Neither Kaya nor the government has yet answered the allegation.
