Left Party wants joint government talks with Social Democrats, Centre and Greens, Centre Party says no
Left Party vice-chair Ida Gabrielsson demanded on Monday that the Social Democrats, the Left Party, the Centre Party and the Greens sit down together for government talks, saying "all four parties are needed and must accept each other's importance" for any government support; the Left refuses a pure support-party role and is demanding ministerial posts. Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist rejected joint four-party talks and said the Centre could govern with the Social Democrats and the Greens, but not sit in the same government as the Left. The four parties together hold 176 of parliament's 349 seats, a majority if they can agree; Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson must report progress when parliament convenes on 28 September.
