Turkish prosecutors investigate ex-Borsa İstanbul chief after his warning preceded a stock plunge

Türkiye's benchmark BIST 100 index fell 6.6 percent to 12,972.74 points on 16 September, and the banking sub-index dropped 7.8 percent, after payment defaults at fund manager Pusula Portföy and a rule change limiting withdrawals at Atlas Portföy rattled investors; trading was briefly halted by an automatic circuit breaker. Prosecutors then opened an investigation into İbrahim Mustafa Turhan, a former Borsa İstanbul chairman and ex-central bank deputy governor, over a social media post in which he had warned that problems at one institution could spread through lost trust and forced asset sales.
