Greece and Türkiye trade fresh accusations as Aegean marine park dispute reignites

Türkiye's decrees establishing marine national parks around Lemnos, Samothrace and Kastellorizo, which drew a formal Greek protest when Erdoğan signed them in August, have revived “gray zones” rhetoric in the Aegean this week, with Greek and Turkish media exchanging sharp accusations. Greece calls the parks illegal beyond Turkish waters, while Athens is separately preparing to resume Aegean seismic surveys as early as October, a move it has called a test of the relationship. Neither government has signalled it will back down.
