Turkish Medical Association warns İmamoğlu trial's marathon hearings may amount to torture

The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) told İstanbul's 33rd High Criminal Court that the ongoing corruption trial of suspended İstanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu risks amounting to torture or inhuman treatment through its marathon sessions. Hearings have run four days a week from 10 a.m. to past midnight since August 17, some until 1:30 a.m., while lawyers travel over 100 kilometres a day to the Silivri courthouse. TTB's Ali Karakoç said too little time for sleep, meals and rest accumulates into physical and mental fatigue over consecutive days.
