Senior PKK figure says Türkiye must clarify Öcalan's status for peace process to hold

Cemil Bayık, a senior figure in the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), warned that the peace process with Ankara will stall unless Türkiye clarifies the legal status of imprisoned founder Abdullah Öcalan and other senior figures, not only the terms for laying down arms. Sources close to the ruling party have ruled out giving Öcalan, held on İmralı island since 1999, formal standing on the disarmament committee overseeing the process, though he could still advise it.
