Greece formally protests Türkiye's new Aegean and Mediterranean marine parks
Greece's embassy in Ankara lodged a formal protest against Türkiye's two newly declared marine national parks, arguing their boundaries have no legal effect where they extend beyond Turkish territorial waters into areas Athens regards as part of the Greek continental shelf. The parks, declared by presidential decree in August, cover waters near the islands of Lemnos, Samothrace and Kastellorizo, reopening a dispute the two NATO allies had tried to ease with a 2023 friendship declaration.
