Türkiye remands 81 pending trial in crackdown on Süleymanlılar group, summons ex-interior minister

Turkish courts have jailed 81 people pending trial in a financial-crimes investigation into the Süleymanlılar religious community and its leader, Alihan Kuriş, after a new round of raids on 25 August. Former interior minister İdris Naim Şahin has been summoned to testify, after prosecutors said a car assigned to him helped Kuriş's brother try to leave the country; Şahin says it was used without his knowledge. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek says the case targets financial crimes, not the community's beliefs, though the raids follow years of pressure on the group from figures close to the ruling AKP.
