Athens condemns Türkiye's two new marine parks in the Aegean

Through presidential decrees dated 15 August, published in the official gazette on Sunday, Türkiye declares two marine national parks: one in the northeastern Aegean and one in the eastern Mediterranean between Fethiye and Kaş. Greece's foreign ministry calls the designation unlawful to the extent the parks extend beyond Turkish territorial waters, and states that it produces no legal effect either in international waters or with regard to Greece's rights over its continental shelf. Ankara presents the move as environmental protection; the row mirrors Turkish protests last year, when Greece established parks of its own in the Ionian and the Aegean.
