The opposition attacks the tighter family reunion rules in a special sitting
In a special parliamentary debate on Wednesday the opposition called the government's tighter family reunion proposals cruel, arguing that the new rules leave some families choosing between an abortion and seeing relatives deported. Joint motions would strip the maintenance and housing requirements from renewals and cut the waiting time from two years to one. The Social Democrats say it is unthinkable for most people to live more than two years without their children or parents. The election is on 13 September.
