Ceuta's mayor tells MEPs the city is traumatised and demands immediate deportations

Juan Jesús Vivas testified on Thursday before the European Parliament's civil liberties committee, convened after roughly 80,000 people entered the Spanish enclave by sea on 30 and 31 July. He called the episode an invasion and demanded the immediate return of the Moroccans still present. Vivas said between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants remain in overwhelmed reception centres. The Spanish government declined its invitation to attend; the Commission was represented by migration commissioner Magnus Brunner.
