Kurtulmuş says the joint ‘terror-free Türkiye’ bill reaches parliament next week

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş said the bill, which he calls one of the pillars of the process, will be tabled next week as a joint proposal by the parties. Sources in the AKP expect a vote by August 14, before parliament rises for the summer; the unpublished draft defines the PKK as a defunct terrorist group and puts members who have not committed serious crimes on probation, excludes those serving life sentences, and imposes a five-year supervision period barring political office and public sector employment. The consultations covered every party except İYİ and took place before the split in the CHP and the founding of Yeni Parti.
