Türkiye's current account deficit 'manageable' despite widening 12-month gap, Treasury minister says

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said Türkiye's current account deficit remains manageable after an August surplus of $4.05 billion, even as the rolling 12-month deficit widened to $42.1 billion and the January-August gap reached $31.5 billion, up from $19.7 billion a year earlier. He pointed to $1.1 trillion spent on energy imports over 26 years, 1.6 times the cumulative deficit, as the case for Türkiye's green-transition and energy-diversification push.
