Former minister questioned in Türkiye's $20 billion fund probe

Former Family and Social Services Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and her husband gave statements as suspects on 7 October in the investigation into Özata Denizcilik, a shipping company whose shares moved sharply before a $20 billion fund scheme collapsed. Kaya said she bought about 250,000 lots of the shares in April and sold them in August and September, and that she sent the proceeds to the state's deposit insurance fund once the probe became public; Turkey's markets regulator is expected to file a criminal complaint against the couple.
