Sweden to hand a seized shadow-fleet ship over to Ukraine

The Supreme Court on August 4 dismissed an appeal by Caffa Shipping Ltd against the transfer of the 96-metre Caffa, which Ukraine had requested and two lower courts approved, according to documents obtained by AFP. Swedish police boarded the vessel off Trelleborg on March 6; it was sailing under a false Guinean flag bound for Saint Petersburg, and ten of the eleven crew were Russian nationals. Ukraine's sanctions commissioner Vladyslav Vlasiuk says the ship previously carried grain taken from occupied Ukrainian territory. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha thanked Sweden, calling the decision an important precedent.
